COSMOS:

A SPACETIME ODYSSEY

Tippett Studio created creatures, outer-space environments, and more for this spiritual sequel to Carl Sagan’s documentary masterpiece, Cosmos: A Personal Voyage (1980).

Hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson and spanning the entirety of Earth’s history, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey explores life on this little blue planet, from the first animal to transition from water to land to foreseeing a future where spaceships are the norm.

Visual effects were an essential component of this project. Collaborating closely with the production team, Tippett supervisor Eric Leven oversaw the entire VFX pipeline, beginning with previsualization and shot design and ending with the completion of shots that spanned creature animation, environment creation and the complete expanse of time.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey won the VES Award for Outstanding Effects Simulations in a Commercial, Broadcast Program, or Video Game. It was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects.
