IMMORTALS

Tippett Studio created the Titans of evil Hyperion’s army for the visually stunning Immortals, a project from the producers of 300 and director Tarsem Singh.

Under the supervision of VFX Supervisor Matt Jacobs, the Tippett team engineered the brutal and balletic climactic battle between the gods of Olympus and the Titans. Our team superimposed complex live-action choreography and motion capture performances to deliver a narrative-driven fight scene that not only highlights the beauty and grace of the gods but also underscores the beastlike nature of the Titans. Combatants were skewered, bisected, decapitated, and disemboweled and performances were enhanced by the judicious use of practical elements simulating blood spray and other gory effects. To contrast with the supersonic speed with which the immortal beings move while alive, live action performances were slowed and enhanced with time-stretched animation upon each character’s death.

In addition, the team developed the photorealistic Mongrel creature and contributed elements to the stunning final “Sistine Chapel Shot” of the film.
