Stagehand

We are searching for a strong and dependable Stagehand to join Tippett Studio in Berkeley, California. This is an entry-level, part-time position that could grow into a full-time gig.

As a Tippett Stagehand you will be hanging around some very cool people doing amazing work. You will be helping on actual Stop-Mo sets. You will be using motion control rigs and even setting up motion capture sessions for film shoots. And after all of that is done, you can hang out and learn!

What you will do:

  • Keep the studio’s stage clean by sweeping and removing waste.
  • Organize anything that is disorganized.
  • Assist on film shoots, including elements, pyro, stop-motion and motion-capture.
  • Work in the machine shop with equipment to create puppets, molds, props, and costumes used in the creation of movie content.
  • Serve as a runner and a production assistant as needed.
  • Setup and break down sets.
  • Troubleshoot.
  • Serve as a studio liaison with outside clients and guests as needed when on stage.

Must have:

  • Love of the film craft.
  • A can-do attitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strength, stamina, attention to detail and a positive collaborative attitude.
  • Enjoy working with your hands and be prepared to learn new skills on the job.
  • Ability to stay focused under pressure and follow instructions.
  • Willingness to run errands when required and constantly expand your skill set.
  • A good working knowledge of power tools, their use and maintenance.
  • Ideally: basic knowledge about woodworking and metal machining.
  • Ideally: basic experience dealing with electrical i.e. circuits, stage lighting, etc.

You will need: 

  • A driver’s license.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and take direction professionally.
  • Ability to learn quickly and assimilate new information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • To be prepared to work the occasional weekend and after hours.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
