THE OSCARS Mark Wahlberg and Ted’s appearance at the Oscars presenting the Sound Mixing and Sound Editing award may have only lasted nine minutes, but it was months in the making. The decision to include the hard-partying bear and his big screen co-star in the Oscars telecast was made soon after Ted director Seth MacFarlane was named host of the 85th Academy Awards. To film the segment, a duplicate of the Academy Awards stage was constructed at CBS Studios, with lighting and cameras arranged to match the Dolby Theatre set up. Tippett animated Ted and MacFarlane provided the voice-over. With five nominees in each category, 10 different outcomes were rendered in a four-week schedule. The correct ones were played back during the live broadcast.
