Ted on Jimmy Kimmel Live nominated for VES Award

In case you missed it, Tippett Studio played a pivotal role in a recent episode of ABC’s late night hit, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” featuring Ted, the titular character of Universal Pictures’ eponymous summer blockbuster.

Sitting down with host Jimmy Kimmel, Ted riffs on his upcoming plans, discusses the sequel, and cracks wise for nearly 4 minutes. The appearance was made possible by animators at Tippett Studio, under the supervision of Blair Clark and Scott Liedtka, using a motion capture performance by director and star Seth MacFarlane, who hid behind a curtain throughout the interview.

After delivering over 380 shots for the summer hit, Tippett Studio’s challenges were different – adapting from a 24fps to 60fps pipeline. The result is Ted perfectly integrated into the program.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! segment has been nominated for the Outstanding Animated Character in a Commercial or Broadcast SeriesVES Award for the 11th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards ceremony.

Tippett’s work on the HBOMovie “Hemingway and Gellhorn” also received nods for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program as well as Outstanding Compositing in a Broadcast Program.
